We seek these opportunities out on behalf of our students, but they are also often recognized organically by meeting eligibility for prestigious national and international awards.

2017–18 Notable Recognition

  • Two students won a 4th place trophy for BASIS Independent Fremont at the Scholastic State Championship Kindergarten–grade 6 Junior Varsity (rating 500-799).
  • The BASIS Independent Fremont chess club placed 2nd (K), 2nd (grade 1), and 4th (grade 2) at the Grade Level State Championships for Chess.
  • At the National History Bee Regional Finals, one student qualified for the International Geography Bee, two others qualified for US Geography Olympiad History Bee, and two of them qualified for Nationals.
  • One grade 5 student advanced to Regionals in the Bay Area Regional Spelling Bee.
  • At the Chess Age Level Championship, BASIS Independent Fremont students placed 1st in ages 4–5, 1st in age 6, 1st place in age 7, 1st place in ages 4–9, and tied for 6th place in Invitational.
  • NFMC Western Region Junior Composers—one of our fourth graders was the winner for her age group for her composition “Lost in Thought”.
  • Two students qualified for final invitation round of the Wonder League Robotic Competition (only 13% of participants are in this round) and won 4th place in VEX Robotics Competition.
  • At AMC 8, 6 out of 29 BASIS Independent Fremont students scored “Exemplary” marks, and the school’s team score was 59, which means our school attained a School Certificate of Merit.
    • Two of these students won Certificates of Achievement, and one student placed 1st in section and won an Honor Roll Certificate (meaning he scored in the top 5% of students nationwide), and an Honor Roll of Distinction (meaning he scored in the top 1% nationally).
  • Optimi Technezei team participated in 2017 FLL Competition and won the Global Innovation Award for their project.
  • One grade 5 student participated with a group of 5 others in the FLL competition qualifying round; they won the best Core Values trophy and Global Innovation Award and got to present their project at the next level in March 2018.

2018–19 Notable Recognition

Fine Arts
  • One grade 2 student won the Grade Level National Championships for Chess in Orlando, Florida.
  • Four students won the 2018 Bay Area Chess Labor Day Kids Tournament Championship.
  • Our team of grade 5 students won the 2nd place award in the Destination Imagination category “Game on” in the Bay Area Regional Competition for the second year in a row.
  • One student won a 2nd place medal (twice) in the U.S. International Competition for a violin performance.
Humanities
  • Two students qualified for Nationals in the History Bee and Science Bee for 2019.
  • One of our grade 3 classes wrote and illustrated stories that were published through the company Student Treasures.
  • Three students competed in the 2019 First Lego League NorCal Tournament and achieved the Core Values award. They were invited to compete in the Northern California Peninsula District Championship.
Science
  • One student, grade 3, attended the International Children & Nature Network Conference and contributed a blog to the event’s organization about her experience.
  • Five students competed in the Science Olympiad and achieved 2nd place in the Pentathlon, Estimania, and Mission Possible categories, and won a Most Innovative Design award in the Gravity category.
Math
  • In Mathleagues, our students received a number of accolades:
    • Four students won the 1st place sweepstakes as a team.
    • One student ranked in 9th place for the fifth grade category, one student ranked 13th in the sixth grade category, and one student (grade 2) ranked 14th in the third grade category.
    • Six students participated in a Mathleague.org contest and placed 3rd for school teams.
  • Three students won 2nd place as a team in the 2019 MATHCOUNTS competition.
  • This year’s Math Kangaroo rankings place several of our students in the top 20:
    • One grade 5 student achieved a 12th place national ranking, one grade 6 student achieved a 17th place national ranking, and two students in grade 2 and grade 4 achieved a 19th place national ranking.
  • One student’s team in the Continental Mathematics League ranked 1st place in the Mathematics League Competition at the Euclidean Grade 4 level for the year. This same student also won the National Honor Roll medal at the 2018–19 Noetic Learning Math Contest, which is awarded to the top 10% of all participants nationwide.
